Why Rise STEM Academy for Girls was nominated

Project-based, striving to be interdisciplinary, focused on curricula that represents our scholars (we are the only school in the district to use open resources as our main curricula - we do not use the district curricula., Fayette County Public Schools launched the Rise STEM Academy for Girls in 2020-21 because district leaders are confident that supporting girls in science, technology, engineering, and math in their formative years will build their confidence to more eagerly embrace these career pathways.

Student experience design

Rise STEM Academy for Girls is intentionally designed to create a learning experience where girls are empowered to explore, question, build, and lead. Scholars engage in hands-on, project-based STEM learning that connects classroom concepts to real-world challenges, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. In a supportive all-girls environment, students are encouraged to take intellectual risks, share their ideas confidently, and see themselves as capable scientists, engineers, and innovators. The school culture prioritizes belonging, leadership, and confidence so that every scholar develops the skills and self-belief needed to revolutionize the face of the STEM industry.
