Why Holladay Intermediate Magnet School was nominated
Holiday Fine Arts Magnet is reimagining where, when and how learning takes place by partnering with local churches and faith leaders in the community to address reading deficits with their learners. The majority of Holladay's Latino and African American youth attend church or places of worship so collaborative partnerships with churches and faith leaders gives families direct access to safe and support learning environments and relationships that children and families of color trust. This innovative collaboration creates new reading hubs in partnership with local church and faith leaders to better collectively tackle reading deficits through one-on-one and small group tutoring and reading intervention experiences ensuring learning happens both at school and at partner local churches and places of worship. Holladay is a school "Where the Arts Come Alive!" At Holladay, we emphasize the creative mindset, nurturing our students' artistry, academic excellence, and personal growth. As a magnet school, we offer all students access to a theme-based program that explores future careers in the arts within a diverse and equitable environment. Our classrooms are vibrant spaces where visual and performing arts are woven into daily lessons, and students participate in weekly art courses and daily after school visual and performing art activities. Our mission is to integrate visual and performing arts to such a degree that it fosters creativity, equity, cultural responsiveness, and innovation empowering every student to express their unique voice and thrive in a diverse world.
